Taxation
The current system of taxes is complex, unfair, and discourages savings, investment, and innovation. Taxation should not be used to make up for irresponsible government spending, because that punishes taxpayers for legislators' mistakes.
Repealing the federal income tax must take place. Florida doesn't have a state income tax, but the federal government does. An income tax is based on the amount of money an individual makes, and as such, it punishes those who are successful.
Instead, a "consumption-based" tax should be the only form of taxation. Known as the Fair Tax, taxation would take place at the point of purchase for all new goods and services for personal consumption. This would eliminate the need for the IRS, federal withholdings, and be absolutely far: you're only taxed on what you spend. Complicated tax code would go out the door, saving taxpayers and legislators both time and money! Lawful U.S. Citizens who are impoverished would receive their taxes back, to make the cost-of-living easier for them to maintain.
One of the first pieces of legislation I would ask my constituents to allow me to co-sponsor is HR 25. Allen Boyd has stated plainly that he is opposed to the Fair Tax.
