The Sallie Mae Sleight of Hand

By Paul McKain, on Apr 30, 2010

As you very well may know, Congressman Boyd's vote for the recently passed health care legislation was also a vote for 700 jobs lost and a $40 million hit to the Bay County economy. Included in the recently passed health care bill was legislation overhauling the student loan program which barred private companies like Sallie Mae from originating education loans. As you can imagine, the Sallie Mae problem has affected and will continue to affect many families within District 2.

Magnuson-Stevens, the government, and our fishermen (Part Two)

By Paul McKain, on Apr 21, 2010

As indicated in my previous blog post on the Magnuson-Stevens Act, I said there was a greater problem looming on the horizon regarding our waters, which involves the very sovereignty of our nation.

And it has nothing to do with fishing.

Magnuson-Stevens, the government, and our fishermen (Part One)

By Paul McKain, on Apr 1, 2010

Carrabelle fishingAs many people in District Two already know, residents of our coastal communities who make a living off of the water have been severely impacted by mandates in the Magnuson-Stevens Act over recent years. One of the main purposes of the act is to ensure that species of fish are not over-fished. It is not necessarily the Act itself that is bad, but rather the outdated data collection methods themselves that are; these outdated methods may overemphasize that a particular fish species is being over-harvested, which then leads to a fishing season being closed prematurely.

Boyd's Vote

The events that took place over the weekend were not only an affront to the people of these United States but a direct assault on the United States Constitution.  The latest chipping away at the foundation of our country was readily promoted by none other than our non-representing representative Allen Boyd.

It would seem that any means to an end is the rallying call of the Democrat Party and the sell-out, Allen Boyd. His refusal to listen to his constituents is well-known. His judgment is flawed and reserved for party politics, special interest, and personal gain alone.

Allen Boyd's quote in the Suwanee Democrat earlier this year tells the whole story:

St. George Island Chili Cook-Off

By Paul McKain, on Mar 7, 2010

I participated in the 28th annual Chili Cook-Off on St. George Island yesterday, and it was a fantastic event.  We met so many engaged and informed voters, and had a good time to boot.

My green chili placed 16th out of 60 participants - only the top 15 are considered finalists for further judging, but I'm happy with how we did, and glad to have met so many of you yesterday.

And best of all, the whole event benefited the volunteer fire department.
